Real-time ranking

A question which has been often asked, 'should the PathSearch results be ranked at real-time or batch?'.
Well, the answer is, real-time... in a perfect environment.
Although, with the endless stream of websites which will probably relate to a query, there would be a certain process drain on the system, should it have to rank thousands of websites, and thats before you even see the results.
The future of PathSearch, with a larger index may require a certain amount of pre-ranking. Allowing for a speedier ranking algorithm at search-time.
Currently, PathSearch (and the second phase, Milestone Two, rank their results in the split second from pressing the search button, to displaying the search results.
And for us, reaching for an ideal world, we want to keep as much real-time ranking as possible.
So the answer to the question is, depends on your index!
