Well, the search index is quite a bit bigger than the previous search engine we launched in 2004.
I think that handling that amount of websites, is a job and a half. Now we've just got to match Google ;)
A few new features have been added over the past few days. Yes I know, you're all shouting out, 'but what about the page numbers'... but now there is a little image icon next to each search result, which will launch the website in a new window (for power users mainly).
But our little gem, is the caching feature.
And I bet no one has even noticed it is there... Look at the bottom of the search results, next time you try and find something. It may say Search time: Cached (0.00)s. If it says cached, with brackets around the time, then you are browsing results that have been stored in a quick-win cache. EG: The term and its results have been already sorted by relevance and stored in a temporary place. This means that if you search for something which has been queried in the immediate past, then the results are stored in a cache and then given to whoever wants them next. This means that execution times drop dramatically.
But like I said. I bet no one has noticed it yet.
Happy browsing.
