RemoteDrive going good

27 May 2006 - 06:47 PM

OmegaSoft RemoteDrive is nearing the initial public beta release.

Quite interesting how this application has been completely re-coded and developed.

Originally it was based on the popular iNet Hosting service, developed some years ago by OmegaSoft. This service was intended to be used to enable users to setup websites. However, as it was used, it was apparent that the majority of the users were using the service as extra storage.

So we made the decision to remove all of its web abilities. And make it a private, secure, extra disk drive. Hence the cunning name, RemoteDrive.

The old service was driven by a log file (in reality several) being generated for each account, these files contained all the key information, and logged each action made.

In RemoteDrive, the first duty was to completely rework that idea, and store all of the key information into databases. This not only made it easier to manage user accounts, but sped the whole system up somewhat.

The overall layout of the screens remain similar to the previous service. But make no mistake, even these similarities end when you start to use them. The whole user-end interaction has been spiced up.

Stay tuned, to see how to register for the first public beta release.
