PathSearch M3

04 June 2006 - 11:14 PM

Where we on the current development of M3 (That's the new cool codename for our next search engine)?

Well, we are currently working, developing, testing, editing, retesting several programs designed to maximise the ability for Fifobot to get as much information from a website as possible.

In terms of the new architecture, there is nothing penned at the moment. We have several drawings looking at how a new system should look, and what new parts we will need. But these drawings are far from complete.

What has already been established is that the current data storage for Milestone 2 is actually perfect for how we want to move forward. When we developed Milestone 2, we look into account future work. On the whole, the current format (needs some tweaking) actually has potential and should intergrate well with what we are looking into for M3.

Don't forget, PathSearch (version 1) was designed as a foothold onto the research bandwagon. Milestone 2 was targetted at making a more stable, more reliable, accurate and faster search font-end. M3 (Milestone 3) will compliment the work done prior, by strenghening the back-of-house processing. And thus, improving all round result sets.

When can you expect the new engine? Well, who knows. This isn't a quick hashed-together service. Months and months of research has to be undertaken first, so that we can better understand where the best opportunities are.

Although as stated in a press release today, intrim functions will be tested on a new OmegaSoft.co.uk site search feature.
