RemoteDrive Development Starts Tomorrow

08 January 2006 - 11:36 PM

Tomorrow will see the initial programming code for the new RemoteDrive service, we will be launching later this year.

The timetable for development is rapid, but not neglectful. Having built and maintained the 'iNetWorld Hosting' service in 2003, we have had a great head start into what RemoteDrive will do.

At the core, RemoteDrive and iNet Hosting will be more-or-less the same. There are a lot of similar principles between the two services. So we have been able to use the iNet Hosting development timetable (albeit three years old) to specifically plan the development steps for RemoveDrive.

But what we are not going to do, is copy code from the iNet service to RemoteDrive!

There maybe a mesh of similarities between the two programs, but the principles have changed drastically. Since the iNet days, we have moved more towards SQL and XML structures to store and hold data. iNet uses logfiles and flatfiles. While there are advantages, SQL databases (and more so with XML) have superior data management, which allow for a more rapid and efficient execution.

RemoteDrive will not allow users to host websites. Unlike iNet, this new service is specifically designed to store information and data, so that you can take it with you on the move. There is a whole security backbone to build for storing data.

We've had to add better administration features too. iNet Hosting was fantastic in the realms of self-management. Users could sign up and do all sorts of wonderful things with their accounts. People could come and go. But this self-management has prone to abuse. RemoteDrive will have a strong focus on authorising actions, so you, your data and our service never get abused or put at risk.

Tomorrow is the start of development. Stay tuned for more updates tomorrow.
